Programs & Services
TACA has been providing services since 2000 and all of the programs and services are provided at no or little cost to families. To read about our past accomplishments please click here.
Chapter Monthly Meetings & Coffee Talks
TACA has local Chapters in several states around the United States that provide outreach to families affected by autism via monthly educational meetings and coffee talks. Monthly Chapter Meetings feature expert speakers on a variety of autism related topics while our informal Coffee Talks bring together experienced and new parents alike to learn and discuss autism best practices as well as share stories about their children’s hurdles and triumphs. Coffee Talks for parents are also offered in Spanish in limited locations. Come and receive extra support or chat all topics related to autism and meet other TACA families at these monthly get-togethers.
Parent Empowerment & Support
TACA provides support for thousands of families each year during normal business hours Monday through Friday. We may be reached via telephone (949) 640-4401, email (through our “contact us” page on the website) and Live Chat.
Families affected by autism can also receive instant support by talking with TACA parent mentors through our website’s Live Chat feature. TACA’s Live Chat offers families Real Help Now!
Parent Mentor Program
Families affected by autism can be matched with a personal TACA Parent Mentor who will offer one-on-one support, general suggestions and information about various autism-related subjects such as medical insurance, behavioral issues, navigating school district issues, biomedical treatments, common dietary intervention, and a variety of additional topics.
This is a fully developed and managed program offering screened, experienced, trained and supported qualified Mentors to guide new parents on the Autism Journey. Our program is unique in the autism community and supports our mission: For families who have just received the autism diagnosis, TACA aims to speed up the cycle time from the autism diagnosis to effective treatments. Autism Education Events
TACA offers parents many additional educational opportunities such as our Autism Journey Seminars, Special Education Law Lectures & Clinics, Doctors’ Dinners, and REAL HELP NOW Conferences, which focus on autism related topics like advocacy, medical issues, and feature special expert guest speakers from around the United States.
Autism Journey Guides & Blueprints
Our Autism Journey Guides provide parents a comprehensive overview of best practices following the autism diagnosis and throughout the autism journey. Guides are available for free to new families attending their first meeting at any TACA Chapter meeting nationwide. They can also be purchased for a nominal fee from Shop TACA and shipped anywhere in the U.S. Included in the Autism Journey Guide is our Autism Journey Blueprints providing an outline format of the Guide offering parents an easier way to read and learn about autism intervention, therapies and medical treatments.
Website, E-Newsletters & Autism Events Listing
The TACA website provides in-depth, comprehensive information for parents regarding the autism journey, and information about upcoming TACA and other local autism community events. It can be found at: www.tacanow.org. While visiting the website, you can easily subscribe to receive our free e-newsletters to find out the latest autism news and local autism community events providing education, support and social family experiences.
TACA also offers parent training via webinars. They are available in a series of categories: educational, resources, medical and diet; based on topic, needs and age of the child. Webinar announcements are sent in the TACA National e-news and require on-line registration. For more details, please go to http://www.tacanow.org/webinars/.
Scholarship Programs: Family Scholarships & Autism Cares
TACA understands how difficult it is to stretch the family budget to include all the treatments necessary for your child. Our aim is to provide funding as it becomes available. The application process is competitive and not all qualified applicants will be awarded a scholarship. For more detailed information and a current listing of opportunities available, please click here: TACA is also a proud partner of AutismCares, a consortium of leading autism organizations that have come together to support individuals with autism and their families during natural disasters and other catastrophic life events.
Spanish Outreach & Services
TACA offers outreach to the Latino autism community including Coffee Talks and workshops in Spanish, parent support, mentoring, printed and online materials. We collaborate with other disability/related organizations by attending/speaking at conferences as our schedule permits. Spanish Coffee Talks are offered on a limited basis, but general support and information in Spanish is offered nationwide.
TACA is proud to collaborate with community special education attorneys in Southern California for its Pro Bono Attorney Panel. The Panel provides free legal services to TACA members through one-hour legal consultations, legal education seminars, and monthly legal advice clinics. At this time, these services are only available to TACA members in the Southern California area; however this model program is set to be expanded to other communities in the future.
TACA Chapter Libraries
Each Chapter also maintains a TACA Chapter Library with the latest autism books, CDs, and DVDs that can be borrowed for free.
