May 19, 2012 Meet Spectrum Supports, LLC, A new autism center in Woodstock, IL
Speakers: Tania Boon-Richardson and Dr. Scott Morris
Spectrum Support, LLC, a new center devoted to individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families, just opened its doors in Woodstock this year. Come and meet the autism mom behind this new center, Tania Boon-Richardson, and hear her vision for what the center can bring to our community. Tania is also looking for YOUR ideas and input. This meeting is your chance to ask for you what you need – therapy services, play groups, open gym time, whatever you are looking for! Tania has also brought Dr. Scott Morris, a DAN! physician, to the team at Spectrum Support. He will now be in Woodstock at Spectrum Supports one to two days a week seeing patients. Dr. Morris will introduce himself, talk about biomedical treatment for autism spectrum disorders, and he will be offering five free 15-minute consults with families who would like to talk with him individually. These consults will go to the first five families who e-mail Linda at linda.betzold.tacanow.org. Families will be notified as soon as possible whether they were one of the first five to e-mail or not.
Self described as “just a mom”, Tania Boon-Richardson saw a need in the community and created Spectrum Supports to offer families and children affected by autism excellent local resources under one roof. Using her own experiences with her son who has autism, Christopher, she strives to create a center that is kid and family friendly – a place where the kids want to come and the families feel comfortable and never judged. Bringing in passionate professionals in the fields of speech therapy, occupational therapy, biomedical treatment, social skills, and chiropractic services, the center hopes to ease the stresses involved in life with autism. The center is a welcoming place that always looks for families’ input on the center can meet their needs. After a wide variety of educational and professional experiences, Dr. Scott Morris found himself in the field of occupational and environmental medicine which gave him an appreciation of the impact of environmental, chemical, and toxic exposures upon the neurological and behavioral development of individuals and their families. As a result, he pursued a Masters of Public Health at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2005. Since 2008, Dr. Morris has been a DAN! physician. Additionally, he serves as Chair of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine’s Special Interest Section for Underserved Occupational Populations. Dr. Morris believes that by removing offending items such as toxins, certain foods, and infectious agents and by replacing lacking nutrients one is more likely to achieve a balanced metabolism and physiology. It is this equilibrium which allows an individual to attain their optimal neurological and behavioral development. Additionally, these goals are most successfully achieved for the patient through close collaboration with the family, educators, therapists, and other clinicians. He sees patients by appointment in both Woodstock and Gurnee.
