Each TACA group maintains a resource library of the latest autism books and DVDs/CDs that can be checked out by members at no charge.

June 2, 2012	Addressing Social Skills Deficits in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
	Speaker: Dr. Adel Najdowski, Ph.D., BCBA-D Deficits in social skills are viewed as a core feature of ASD and are one of the main focuses of treatment. Social deficits in children with ASD are quite variable and there are a multitude of child-specific social behaviors that need to be addressed depending on each child’s unique needs. This presentation will outline social skills that need to be taught in order to develop a comprehensive social repertoire that leads to successful social interactions with others. Further, this presentation will introduce tools for determining which deficits are exhibited by a given child and for designing an individualized social curriculum specific to that child’s needs.
	Dr. Adel Najdowski is the co-creator and director of Skills® at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders. She has worked with children and their families affected by autism spectrum disorders using ABA-based intervention since 1995 in school-based, home-based, center-based, and workshop settings. Dr. Najdowski has taught multiple undergraduate and graduate level courses in psychology. She serves on the editorial boards of the journal, Behavior Analysis in Practice and the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. Dr. Najdowski has been a National Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) since 2003 and a doctorate level BCBA-D since 2009. She has eight first-authored publications, 18 co-authored publications, and has been an author on 66 presentations given at conferences.

Location: Phoenix Club 1340 S Sanderson Ave. Anaheim, CA 92806-5629 Driving Directions Parking & Directions: Parking: The Phoenix Club has limited parking additional parking is available on the street or in local lots. All events will occur at the Phoenix Club in a secure area. Driving Directions: From the 57 freeway, take the Ball Road exit (head east), turn right at Phoenix Club Dr/ Auto Center, turn right at S Sanderson, destination will be on the left. At the Picnic: This year’s picnic will feature: Gluten-Free Casein-Free Food Court Options: In-n-Out Burger Trailer, Taco Lady &BBQ compliments of Bourbon Street Bar & Grill /Heroes Bar & Grill/ Joe’s Tavern! Carnival Rides include: Classic Carousel, Kids Swing Chairs, Lady-Bug Ride and Roc-O-Plane. July 7, 2012	Transitions and Programs for Adults
	Speaker: Laura Roberts
	Laura Roberts is the founder of Autism Behavior Consultants (ABC). Laura was also one of the founding board members of LA FEAT and a co-founder of the South Bay GFCF group which is now the South Bay chapter of TACA (Talk About Curing Autism). Laura’s son “Nicky” was diagnosed with autism in 1998 at age 3. Due to the limited number of agencies and long waiting lists in the South Bay area, Laura was unable to find a clinic based program for her son. Laura immediately started Nicky’s program as a workshop model with three other parents in her area. In 2001 Laura started Autism Behavior Consultants in the South Bay with her son’s program supervisor, Kelly Magill. Together, Laura and Kelly are the co-owners of ABC. Laura is the Executive Administrative Director and Kelly is the Executive Clinical Director. Due to her son’s lifetime disability, Laura is now exploring services for older children to find out “what’s next.” The journey to recover her son has given her the opportunity to meet amazing parents and lifetime friends. Like all parents in this journey, Laura’s greatest gift is to help other parents by sharing experiences, knowledge and resources.
