TACA holds monthly meetings in many locations throughout the United States that feature educational speakers on important topics and allow family members to connect with one another and stay on top of the latest information in the autism world.

Each TACA group maintains a resource library of the latest autism books and DVDs/CDs that can be checked out by members at no charge.

June 3, 2012 Teaching Cognitive Skills to Children with Autism
Speaker: Dr. Jonathan Tarbox
Dr. Jonathan Tarbox is the Executive Director of Autism Research Group, as well as the Director of Research and Development at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders. Dr. Tarbox values his connections to the parent community and has presented at a variety of conferences for family members of individuals with ASD in the U.S. and abroad, including the Autism Society of America, Families for Effective Autism Treatment, Parents Helping Parents, the National Autism Association, the Back to School Autism Conference series, the Special Needs Network, the Autism Society of Montreal, the Autism Society of Istanbul, Turkey, and the International Autism Conference in Amman, Jordan. Dr. Tarbox is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral, and he received his PhD in Behavior Analysis from the University of Nevada, Reno. His early career included positions at the New England Center for Children and the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Tarbox has conducted basic, applied, and interdisciplinary research and has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters in scientific texts, and articles in popular media. In addition, Dr. Tarbox is co-editing the Handbook of Early Intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorders: Research, Practice, and Policy, to be published by Springer Publishing in 2012. Dr. Tarbox’s areas of emphasis in research include behavioral approaches to complex language and cognition, the role of technology in treatment and training, and randomized controlled trials of autism treatment. Dr. Tarbox currently serves on the board of editors of The Analysis of Verbal Behavior, Behavior Analysis in Practice, and Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders and is affiliate faculty at the Chicago School for Professional Psychology.

About: The TACA Family Picnic is a family-oriented annual event. We encourage our members to attend this fun filled day, where there are activities for the children, vendors, resource providers, event sponsors, GFCF food, snacks, beverages and entertainment.

Parking & Directions: Parking: The Phoenix Club has limited parking additional parking is available on the street or in local lots. All events will occur at the Phoenix Club in a secure area.
Driving Directions: From the 57 freeway, take the Ball Road exit (head east), turn right at Phoenix Club Dr/ Auto Center, turn right at S Sanderson, destination will be on the left.

Rain or shine- the activities, entertainment, and refreshments will begin at 11:00 am. We suggest that you arrive early!
