May 12, 2012 Eyes and Ears: How Vision and Listening Therapy can Help Your Child
Speaker: Doreen Hunt, OTR/L and Dr Neena Gabrielle, OD, FCOVD
The three main systems for organizing sensory input- visual, auditory and vestibular (balance) are highly interrelated. Children on the autism spectrum may have impairments in any or all of these systems. Come hear how:

  • A developmental vision exam can identify vision problems that can impact a child’s behavior and learning. Where deficits are found, vision therapy can be effective in treating physiological, neuromuscular and perceptual dysfunctions of the visual system.
  • iLs listening therapy uses sound and movement to stimulate parts of the brain that are involved in learning, communication, and moving. This strengthens neurological pathways and improves the ability to learn and to process information.
Doreen Hunt is an Occupational Therapist with more than 25 years in pediatrics specializing in Sensory Processing Disorders and Sensory Motor Integration. She is currently in private practice at Children’s Therapy of Woodinville and she has incorporated listening therapy using Integrated Listening Systems (iLs) into her practice, with great success. Dr. Neena Gabrielle is a developmental optometrist and owner of Eastside Family Vision Care who specializes in working with special needs children. Dr. Gabrielle is an iLs Associate and feels it is important to co-manage with other providers to make OT, PT, SLP and ABA therapies more effective.
