TACA Pennsylvania Chapter Biomedical Scholarship

TACA is pleased to announce that the medical scholarship fund for TACA Pennsylvania families will be made available in 2017. These scholarships will allow families to begin much needed medical treatment or to continue with the prescribed treatment of a Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs (MAPS) doctor. We are proud to provide these scholarships and look forward to helping TACA Pennsylvania families in their pursuit of medical treatments. The MAPS doctor portion of the scholarship is open both to those new to biomed as well as those continuing biomed treatments.

Eligibility Criteria

Families must meet the eligibility criteria below to receive assistance from the TACA Pennsylvania Chapter Biomedical Scholarship.
•Be a TACA member (sign up online, it’s FREE!)
•Attend a TACA Pennsylvania Chapter event.
•Read our "Try, Before You Apply" page
•Be working with a Parent Mentor for at least 2 months
•Have a combined annual household income of less than $85,000. (Applicants with higher household incomes will be considered, but priority will be given to those below $85,000)
•Include a completed ATEC for the child being treated.

What does the scholarship pay for?

TACA will provide financial assistance to eligible families for treatment with a MAPS doctor. The amount of individual scholarships will be dependent on total funds available, number of applicants, completion of mandatory requirements, and evaluation of the family’s application. We recommend that when you complete your application, you provide an estimate of costs/goals up to $1000.

In the application form, families will be asked to identify the MAPS doctor they are working with and to whom they would like their funds directed on their behalf. The entire amount of the scholarship will be directed to one doctor and will not be split. This must be decided prior to application and cannot be changed once the scholarship is awarded.

The scholarship will not be paid out to individual vendors for supplements or lab work. If the doctor chosen can provide those services or products, the scholarship funds can be used by the doctor to cover those types of expenses for a scholarship family. NOTE: Payments, once authorized, are NOT made directly to the family, but are instead paid on the family’s behalf directly to the doctor.

Awards will be released in two parts; the first half immediately after award and selection of a MAPS doctor and the second half way through the scholarship year, once a second ATEC is completed and submitted.

If you are a family that is new to biomed then you may be eligible for the additional supplement and lab work scholarships.

How to Apply

Applications will ONLY be accepted through the online application form. We will NOT accept any via fax and incomplete applications will not be considered.

The TACA Pennsylvania Chapter Biomedical Scholarship is not intended to fund on-going services and scholarship funds are restricted. Once an application is approved, TACA will fund only one request per family per year through the TACA Pennsylvania Chapter Biomedical Scholarship to be used throughout the year as needed for that family.

Application Process

Assistance will be based on the needs of the family and the fund availability. Applicants who have not received funds from TACA previously will be given highest priority. However, TACA reserves the right to provide assistance more than once to the same family. The amount of assistance will vary, depending on availability of funds. Please do not call to check on the status of your application. You will be notified as soon as possible about our decision. Only formal online applications will be accepted. Applications will not be accepted via fax. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Not every family who applies for the TACA Biomedical Scholarship will receive funding. TACA’s program manager presents the applications to the Scholarship Application Review Committee awards the scholarships. This selection process depends upon the number of applications received in a given time frame, the applicant’s unique circumstances, and the amount of funding available to make the best decision possible.
